Kinga Nowak – painter, sculptor, and graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she has been leading a painting studio since 2024. She also studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Her paintings were featured in the 2014 publication 100 Painters of Tomorrow, a book that played a significant role in shaping contemporary painting. Kinga Nowak’s works are part of the collections of the National Museum in Kraków, Wawel Royal Castle, the Museum of Photography in Kraków, the National Museum in Gdańsk, Bunkier Sztuki in Kraków, as well as numerous private collections.
Her artistic practice unfolds on two levels—figurative and abstract. Both paths stem from her fascination with multiculturalism, particularly African art. The narrative of her figurative paintings revolves around the relationship between humans and objects, often referencing cultural artefacts and museum exhibits. She juxtaposes these elements with landscapes, creating multilayered compositions. Her painting engages with memory, history, and the process of object translocation, exploring their new contexts and meanings. In doing so, she builds a dialogue between past and present, examining how culture shapes our perception of the world.
Since 2015, together with Michał Bratko, she has been co-creating Widna Gallery, an artist-run space in Krakow.
